Kippel

Kippel is one of four typical Valais communities in the Lötschental valley, which is part of the UNESCO Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch World Heritage Site. The magical valley offers unspoilt nature with a variety of flora and fauna as well as a rich cultural life. It is a well-connected tourist destination. In winter, sporting challenges come in the form of the Lauchernalp ski area with its guaranteed snow, as well as the 24km-long network of cross-country skiing and winter hiking trails. 200km of hiking and mountain biking trails are available for nature lovers during the snow-free period.

Residents can enjoy the perks of living in a tourist destination and benefit from a high quality of life without foregoing close links to the city: Brig, Visp, Sierre and Sion are around 30–40 minutes away by car thanks to an accessible road that’s safe to use in winter. Bern can be reached by car in just over 1 1/2 hours, Zurich and Geneva in just over 3 hours and Milan in around 3 1/2 hours. The Lötschental is therefore very centrally located. An efficient PostBus network, Goppenstein railway station and the car shuttle train are the backbone of public transport and offer a good timetable.

Kippel is home to two bed and breakfasts, a restaurant, the orientation school, the valley’s care home, the Lötschentaler Museum and the Albert Nyfeler gallery. The valley’s primary school and kindergarten, the medical practices, a cheese dairy and a grocery shop are within walking distance in the neighbouring village. The choice of active clubs in Kippel adds to the appeal of this liveable municipality.
