Crans-Montana
The Municipality of Crans-Montana was established on 1 January 2017 through the merger of the former municipalities of Chermignon, Montana, Randogne and Mollens. It has a population of more than 10,000 residents and is classified as a town according to the criteria of the Swiss Federal Statistical Office. Its territory covers 590 hectares, stretching from the Rhône Valley up to the Plaine-Morte Glacier at nearly 3,000 metres above sea level. The municipality takes its name from the renowned tourist destination, whose plateau is shared with the neighbouring municipalities of Lens and Icogne. Major events, such as the 2027 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships, help raise the international profile of Crans-Montana.
Tourism remains the cornerstone of the local economy. It provides leisure, sports and wellness infrastructure that enhances the quality of life for residents and contributes to the region’s attractiveness. At the same time, a dynamic destination that is lively throughout the year is more appealing to visitors. This virtuous circle summarizes the region’s economic ambitions. Economic development efforts focus on sectors with strong growth potential and limited exposure to economic cycles, including healthcare, education and new technologies. The Municipality of Crans-Montana aims to create year-round employment opportunities while maintaining a balanced demographic structure.
In summary, Crans-Montana offers a unique combination of urban living and outstanding natural surroundings. The municipality boasts a rich cultural scene, a wide range of leisure activities, close proximity to nature, and exceptional sunshine, making it an attractive place both to live and to visit.
