Bettmeralp

The municipality of Bettmeralp, with its three villages of Betten, Bettmeralp and Martisberg, unites tradition with modernity and tourism. The urban centres of Brig and Visp are less than 30 minutes away by car and public transport. The highest point in the municipal territory is the peak of the Aletschhorn (4,193m above sea level).

As part of the UNESCO Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch World Heritage Site, Bettmeralp is famous for being a car-free holiday destination with an excellent skiing and hiking area. The municipality is very family-friendly, offers a range of leisure activities, and has its own school, as well as a wide choice of clubs to join. The locals are very sociable and keen to learn more about other cultures.

The municipality has about 450 permanent residents, 120 of whom live in Betten (1,203m above sea level). The houses in this unspoilt and closely huddled village include some exceptionally beautiful traditional buildings. Betten can be reached by car as well as by cable car. Bettmeralp (1,948m above sea level), on the other hand, can only be reached by cable car. In the high season, the well-known holiday destination accommodates up to 5,000 people; it is home to around 300 people in the low season. Bettmeralp’s municipal office is also located up on the Aletsch plateau. The municipality’s third and final village is Martisberg (1,367m above sea level). About 30 people call this charming village home. Martisberg can only be reached by car.
