Leuk

The municipality of Leuk is the district capital and, since the merger with Erschmatt in 2013, comprises the three localities of Leuk-Stadt, Susten and Erschmatt, as well as several hamlets including Pfyn, Pletschen, Feithieren, Briannen, Gampinen, Thel, St. Barbara, Rotafen, Lichten and Brentschen.

Leuk-Stadt is a small town of historic importance. It is situated on the north side of the Rhone Valley on a sunny hillside terrace amidst vineyards. Susten lies on the talus cone of the “Illgraben” torrent and is a typical residential neighbourhood with a scattered settlement area. Together with the mountain village of Erschmatt, which lies on a plateau of the Leuker Sonnenberge region, the municipality of Leuk radiates a special charm.

With a central location and well-developed public transport network, Leuk offers a high standard of housing and quality of life. Thanks to the housing promotion programme and municipal contributions towards energy-efficient buildings, Leuk’s attractiveness as a residential community has been successfully increased in recent years.
