Dorénaz
Covering an area of 12.57 km², the municipality of Dorénaz stretches from the Rhône River to the Pointe du Diabley. Its more than 1,100 residents are distributed across three villages: Dorénaz, Allesses and Champex.
Dorénaz (451 m above sea level)
The village of Dorénaz is home to the municipal administration, the school, the local grocery store (which also operates the post office), cafés and restaurants, as well as a variety of businesses and craft enterprises. The House of Tales and Legends (Maison des Contes et Légendes) hosts temporary exhibitions and organizes a range of cultural events.
Allesses and Champex
These two hamlets are inhabited year-round and are located at 900 m and 1,000 m above sea level, respectively. They can be reached either by cable car or via a scenic paved road. From Champex, countless walking and hiking opportunities are available. For example, visitors can hike to Branson along a picturesque hillside trail that crosses the renowned Follatères Nature Reserve, famous for its remarkable holly forest.
La Giétaz
Situated at 1,350 m above sea level, this holiday hamlet can be reached in summer by car or via charming hiking trails (approximately a 20-minute walk from the upper cable car station in Champex). A mountain refreshment hut provides a pleasant stop for hikers exploring the region’s many beautiful trails.
