Vouvry
Vouvry is ideally located between lake and mountains. Lake Geneva can be reached by car in just ten minutes, or a little longer by bicycle following the Rhône River. Winter sports resorts are accessible within about half an hour.
The Grand-Rue, lined with its colourful houses, runs through the heart of the village. Here you will find the Town Hall and its arcades, which give the village centre its distinctive character. Opposite stands the Maison de la Tour, once owned by the Tavelli family, from whom it takes its name. Together with its inner courtyards, it is one of the most impressive medieval buildings in the region.
The hamlet of Les Barges, located in the Rhône plain, is primarily dedicated to agriculture. Its development was made possible through major land reclamation, drainage and flood-control works carried out successively since the Middle Ages.
The village of Miex (pronounced “Mee”) lies at an altitude of nearly 1,000 metres and forms a natural balcony overlooking the Rhône plain, offering magnificent panoramic views. The hamlet of Le Flon borders Miex and marks the starting point for excursions to Taney or the Verne Valley.
It takes approximately one hour to reach Taney via the “goat trail”, a winding path that climbs through the forest. Three inns and restaurants welcome visitors and provide a warm and authentic experience. Several well-marked hiking trails lead through stunning landscapes, while a lakeside path allows visitors to walk around Lake Taney.
In January 2017, thanks to the support of numerous donors, the Cul-du-Flon ski lift was put back into operation after having remained closed for eight years.
In 1966, an agreement between the Valais League for the Protection of Nature (LVPN), the Swiss Heritage Society, the Swiss Alpine Club (SAC) and the Bourgeoisie of Vouvry resulted in the classification of the Taney-Grammont area, covering 1,500 hectares, as a federally protected site. This designation protected the area from road traffic and helped preserve its charm, tranquillity and exceptional natural beauty.
