Saint-Gingolph

Equally characterized by mountains and the lake, our village has its feet in the water and its head in the stars, with peaks rising above 2,000 metres. Whether you enjoy swimming or hiking, you will find plenty of opportunities to enjoy nature and outdoor activities here.

Saint-Gingolph is also the starting point of both the ViaRhôna and the GR5, long-distance routes that connect Lake Geneva to the Mediterranean Sea through the Alps.

The history of our village is another unique feature. Since 1569, the French-Swiss border has followed the course of the Morge River, dividing Saint-Gingolph between two countries. Despite this division, a strong spirit of solidarity has always united the two communities. This has been demonstrated on numerous occasions over the years, most recently during the COVID-19 health crisis.

As a result, the village enjoys a rich and varied community life, with many associations and organizations bringing together residents from both sides of the border. The Franco-Swiss markets, held during the summer season, are another local highlight and have become a cherished tradition.

In terms of heritage, the Château de Saint-Gingolph and its annex, known as the Maison des Sœurs (House of the Sisters), are listed as cultural assets of regional importance. These buildings house not only the municipal administration but also the Museum of Traditions and the Boats of Lake Geneva. Visitors are often impressed by the quality and diversity of its collections, which provide fascinating insights into the history, traditions and maritime heritage of the region.
