Saxon
Our wonderful village, nestled in the heart of the Alpine mountain range and set within the lush Rhône Valley, would like to introduce some of its finest assets through the following lines. We hope that your visit will not be limited to exploring our website alone.
Have you ever heard of the famous rock that towers above our village and bears the beautiful name “Pierre-à-Voir”? Known throughout Valais, this remarkable natural monument serves as a landmark, reminding visitors that they are approaching the cradle of the apricot.
Although our hillsides are home to a wide variety of agricultural crops, the people of Saxon remain especially proud of their favourite fruit. The apricot has become a true ambassador of the village and has earned a special place in the hearts of gourmets far beyond the region.
No visit to Saxon would be complete without a stroll through the gardens of the Casino de Saxon. Can you still sense the presence of its distinguished guests from bygone days? The Russian writer Fyodor Dostoevsky, the Italian revolutionary Giuseppe Garibaldi, and many other notable figures stayed in this magnificent place, which remains a remarkably preserved witness to the village’s rich history.
Yet these gardens are only one of the many treasures awaiting you as you discover Saxon. You will appreciate the diversity of our agricultural landscapes and rediscover the charm of authenticity in a region that, at certain times of the year, is transformed by vibrant and spectacular colours.
Wherever you come from and wherever you may be heading, you will be pleasantly surprised by the simple yet exceptionally warm welcome offered by the people of Saxon.
Come and visit us! You will leave only wishing that your stay had been longer. One thing is certain: you will want to return to Saxon.
