Riddes

Travelling up the Rhône Valley from Martigny, you will soon discover the village of Riddes, nestled amidst the orchards for which Valais is famous. Perched on an alluvial cone that has gradually been embraced by development, the municipality is home to around 3,800 residents, most of whom live in the village of Riddes itself. The hamlet of Auddes and the mountain resort of La Tzoumaz complete the picture.

Riddes can be seen as a miniature version of Valais. The valley floor, the Rhône River, the orchards and industrial areas blend harmoniously with the traditional alpine settlements, tourism facilities, leisure opportunities, mountains and extensive forests. The municipality’s territory stretches from the banks of the Rhône up to Mont Gelé at an elevation of 3,023 metres, whose steep slopes delight skiers in winter and hikers in summer.

Easily accessible, served by its own railway station and equipped with all the amenities expected of a modern community, Riddes looks confidently towards the future while preserving the rich heritage of its past. It offers everything needed for an exceptional quality of life.

The village warmly welcomes visitors, whether for the Riddes Fair, held every two years in autumn during even-numbered years, for exhibitions and concerts at the beautiful La Vidondée Cultural Centre or the new L’Abeille Hall, or for a memorable day in the resort of La Tzoumaz, enjoying summer walks or winter sports in the surrounding mountains.
