Varen

Varen offers an outstanding residential area, a choice of active clubs, multifaceted hiking trails and fantastic viewpoints near the parish church.

The municipality is located in the centre of the canton of Valais on the French-German language border. The cantonal capital Sion is 25 minutes away by car. Varen is a lively, diverse community and is part of the district of Leuk. It is characterised by its high quality of life, a central location in the heart of Valais, and the excellent quality of its accommodation.

Leuk railway station is around five minutes away by car. The Salgesch/Sierre motorway junction is also only a short distance away. The famous spa resort of Leukerbad with its thermal springs is also situated nearby. Destinations such as Zermatt and Crans-Montana are just a short journey from Varen. The unspoilt natural surroundings of Pfyn forest in the Pfyn-Finges nature park constitute another of the region’s strong points.

HES-SO Valais University of Applied Sciences is located 15 minutes away in Sierre, and is part of the University of Applied Sciences Western Switzerland. Students graduate with an internationally recognised bachelor’s degree.
