Leukerbad

Leukerbad has always been known for its natural thermal waters; its 500-year-old bathing culture has developed from curative thermal holidays to today’s mountain spa experience. It was recognised early on that Leukerbad’s mountain water, whose temperature rises to 51°C, is enriched with valuable, health-boosting trace elements during its 40-year journey through the depths of the earth’s interior.

Leukerbad lies at 1,411m above sea level and is a popular residential and holiday destination. It can be reached by public transport every half hour. For centuries now, the municipality of 1,500 inhabitants has cultivated an open and hospitable culture. Around 60 restaurants, five grocery stores and a number of other shops have made the mountain community their home.

The Torrent and Gemmi mountains invite you to discover nature on foot or by bike. With the historic Gemmi Pass, Leukerbad has one of the oldest pass connections linking Valais to the Bernese Oberland. Leukerbad also has one of the longest via ferratas, the Daubenhorn, as well as the oldest, the Albinen-Leitern. Educational and sporting alternatives to the thermal baths come in the form of the various trails on the theme of thermal water, as well as the flora and fauna in the alpine meadows, the sports arena with its wide range of indoor activities, and the mini-golf course.
