Fiesch

The municipality of Fiesch is the gateway to the Goms region and lies on the banks of the Weisswasser river, whose source is the Fiesch glacier. Tourism development in Fiesch began in the 19th century, thanks to its panoramic views of the Eggishorn, Märjelensee lake and the nearby Jungfrau region. As the touristic centre of the surrounding valleys, Fiesch has been a strong draw for sports enthusiasts and mountain lovers ever since.

The municipality is part of the UNESCO Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch World Heritage Site. The summit of the Eggishorn (2,927m above sea level) offers a magnificent panoramic view of the entire length of the Aletsch Glacier, the smaller Fiescher Glacier, and the mighty peaks of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, with the view continuing right up to the Matterhorn.

The municipality is just under half an hour’s drive from Upper Valais’s urban centres, Brig and Visp. Fiesch is also home to a wide range of businesses and services, as well as a kindergarten, a primary school and the regional orientation school.
