Nendaz
Located close to Sion and on the left bank of the Rhône Valley, the municipality of Nendaz comprises around fifteen villages and hamlets, with Basse-Nendaz serving as its administrative centre. Its territory covers 8,593 hectares, stretching from the fertile plain of Aproz to the eternal snowfields of the high Alps.
The valley is crowned by magnificent peaks such as the Rosablanche (3,336 m) and the Mont Fort (3,330 m), which are now easily accessible thanks to modern mountain lift facilities.
With more than 500 businesses, Nendaz enjoys a vibrant and diverse economy. Tourism also plays a major role. The resort is particularly renowned for its location at the heart of Les 4 Vallées, one of the largest ski areas in Europe. It is also famous for its eight historic bisses (traditional irrigation channels), which are still in use today and serve as living witnesses to the municipality’s rich heritage.
Numerous facilities benefit both residents and visitors alike, including a swimming pool, an ice rink, tennis courts, playgrounds, 250 kilometres of hiking trails, a cultural centre, and a wide range of shops and restaurants. A further sign of the municipality’s dynamic community life is its approximately forty cultural societies and sports clubs. Finally, the inhabitants of Nendaz are known as Nendards and Nendettes.
