Conthey

Historically located on the border between the lands of the Dukes of Savoy and those of the Bishop of Sion, the municipality of Conthey is today situated in the heart of Valais. As the administrative centre of the district bearing the same name, Conthey enjoys strong development and plays a significant role in the economic, social and cultural life of the Sion region.

With a population of around 8,700 residents, Conthey comprises ten villages. Its territory stretches from the Rhône River, a source of pride and unity for the people of Valais, to the Bernese Alps. To the east, it is bordered by the Morge, the historic boundary between Upper and Lower Valais and also the municipal boundary with Savièse and Sion. To the west lie the neighbouring municipality of Vétroz and the Lizerne Valley.

In Conthey, you will find almost everything that Valais has to offer: the Rhône, the valley floor, a campsite, orchards, commercial and industrial areas, places for celebration, social gatherings and relaxation, rental and private housing, a magnificent hillside, vineyards, which are the third largest in the canton by area, small hamlets, charming villages, traditional alpine settlements (mayens), alpine pastures and mountain landscapes.

The municipality also offers popular ski touring routes, the spectacular natural area of Derborence, and, although less well known but highly valued by locals, the Les Ombrins ski resort.
