Chamoson

Chamoson is home to around 4,000 residents living in the villages of Chamoson, St-Pierre-de-Clages and Grugnay, as well as in the hamlets of Némiaz, Les Vérins, Châtelard and Mayens-de-Chamoson.

Chamoson is also synonymous with vineyards and wine. More than 400 hectares of vineyards are cultivated on the alluvial cone of the Losentze stream and on the terraced slopes of the hillside. The various grape varieties, including the region’s emblematic Johannisberg, are vinified by local winemakers and can be tasted at around thirty wineries and some twenty restaurants.

Chamoson is also a popular tourist destination. With the area of Mayens-de-Chamoson, the municipality promotes nature-based and sustainable tourism and offers an extensive network of hiking trails.

Chamoson is also a place of culture. St-Pierre-de-Clages, known as the “Swiss Book Village”, is home to a church that is considered a jewel of Romanesque architecture.

Last but not least, Chamoson is an important economic centre, with more than 150 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) located within the municipality.
