Niedergesteln

History: The castle (Gestelnburg) and the castle area (Burgschaft) were built from the 11th century onwards. From the 12th to the 14th century, the village and the surrounding area were dominated by the barons of Turn. You can still feel the history of the Middle Ages in the Burgschaft. The knight's path along the nine barons of Turn leads to the castle. You can cross the castle rock through the illuminated ice age cave.

Living: The knight's village with its 740 inhabitants is situated in a sunny location between Raron and Steg. In the Burgschaft, 4 small flats can be booked via Airbnb. Various public buildings/rooms can be rented for events. Currently, up to 70 flats are in planning, which can be rented and/or purchased.

School: The kindergarten and primary school are in Niedergesteln, the lower secondary / orientation school in Raron and the day care facilities in Steg and Raron. There is a village shop by the school building.

Connections/public transport: During rush hour, buses run to the railway stations of Steg/Gampel, Raron and Visp. Visp can be reached in 15 minutes and Bern in 75 minutes by public transport. The A9 full connection between Niedergesteln and Raron will be in operation from 2026. The short distance to the Brig-Visp-Naters agglomeration with all other services makes Niedergesteln an ideal place to live.

Nature/recreation: The total area of the municipality is 1762 ha, 70% of which is included in the BLN inventory and in the UNESCO World Natural Heritage Jungfrau-Aletsch. Along 9 watercourses (Suonen) you can hike in the beautiful nature. There are also several great routes for bikers in the area. On hot days you can enjoy the water and sun at the Baggilla. You can relax and be served in one of the restaurants.
