Eisten

Eisten is a small municipality with lots of charm. It is located at the head of the Saas valley and consists of 22 different hamlets. Its residents benefit from a very well-developed and maintained infrastructure. Municipal life is focused around the main village, which hosts a church, bistro and village shop as well as the municipal hall.

Eisten provides a number of jobs, while the industrial and commercial areas in Upper Valais’s urban centres are only a short journey away. Local residents take the slogan “Live in nature – work in the city” very much to heart. Thanks to the comprehensive public transport timetable, Eisten is easily accessible and therefore an ideal home for commuters who like to live in nature, away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Sports enthusiasts can quickly reach the nearby tourist resorts of Saas-Fee/Saastal, Grächen and Zermatt. The municipality’s hiking area is particularly diverse. On the cultural side of things, various clubs organise a range of events and help enrich local life.

By the way, Alexander Burgener, known as the “king of mountain guides”, grew up in Eisten, in the hamlet of Huteggen. He started many of his mountain tours from here, including a number of first ascents.
