Visp

Since its first documented mention in 1214, the small city of Visp has developed from a nostalgic market town into a dynamic centre for industry, commerce and transport. With a population of over 8,000 and around 12,000 jobs, as well as long-term investments by the international chemical and pharmaceutical company Lonza, Visp is a residential and business location at the heart of Upper Valais.

Since incorporating the village of Eyholz in 1972, Visp has also developed into a hub for the surrounding region, which is home to 13,000 inhabitants and, in many respects, plays the role of a regional centre offering a wide variety of services.

As a traffic junction of the New Railway Link through the Alps, Visp is well connected in all directions and provides a centrally located starting point from which to visit nearby attractions.

The municipality has used the charming old town of Visp as the foundation for a well-thought-out master plan, adding urban inflections to the town centre and impressive new buildings in the outer neighbourhoods. Visp’s high quality of urban living is complemented by a well-developed infrastructure that is capable of meeting current requirements in education, culture, sport and leisure.
