Täsch

Täsch has around 1,200 inhabitants and is part of the tourist destination of Zermatt. Its proximity to the Matterhorn shapes life in the municipality. Residents can enjoy leisure activities in the mountains and also have a beautifully laid out golf course at their disposal. In winter, the municipality becomes the focal point of cross-country skiing in the region.

Täsch lies on a flat valley floor at 1,449m above sea level and comprises the hamlets of Zermettjen and Täschberg, as well as the hiking area of Täschalp, which is located at 2,172m in altitude in a depression between the slopes of the Rothorn and the four-thousanders of the Mischabel group. Its green valley is home to cows, alpine farming and a cheese dairy.

Until 1950, the majority of Täsch’s inhabitants still lived from agriculture. As a result, the village is characterised by traditional Valais houses, barns, storehouses and old stables, some of which have now been converted for residential use. The mountain farming village’s development into a tourist destination in the 19th century was influenced by Zermatt. Today, Täsch is known as a transfer point for people travelling to the town by the Matterhorn, which is only five kilometres away.
