Guttet-Feschel

Guttet-Feschel is a typical Valais mountain community located in the heart of the canton. It lies at an altitude of 1,000–1,300 metres above sea level on a magnificent sunny terrace with a breathtaking view over the entire Rhone Valley. The Guttet-Feschel area not only offers a variety of fascinating landscapes, but also a dry climate with lots of sunny days.

Guttet received its first documented mention under the name of “de gottet” in 1261. Along with the main village, the mountain settlement on the northern slope of the Rhone Valley near Leuk also included the hamlets of Grächmatten and Wiler. The first documented mentions of Feschel used the names “Vexil” or “Veselli”, which mean “hill” or “mountain”. The village is situated on a prominent hill.

For centuries, Guttet and Feschel existed as independent municipalities, but their interests with regard to external affairs have been closely aligned for hundreds of years. The inhabitants of both the former municipalities have always enjoyed strong social ties, which finally led to a merger in 2000.
