Albinen

Albinen is a mountain municipality with a focus on tourism. It is situated in a panoramic and sunny location high above the Rhone Valley in the heart of Valais, and in the immediate vicinity of the thermal spa resort of Leukerbad. Thanks to the Leuk-Albinen and Leukerbad-Albinen bus lines, the village is easily accessible all year round.

The municipality has 250 residents and is part of the Pfyn-Finges nature park. The traditional cultural landscape comprising seven hamlets and Maiensässen settlements stretches from the Dala gorge to the Torrenthorn. Albinen is a unique village of national importance, whose interweaving streets are home to 244 sun-darkened residential and commercial buildings.

Active village clubs make their contribution to village life, including the music society, the ski club, the youth club, the women’s gymnastics club, the church choir and the cultural and promotional association “Altes Albinen”. The pleasant climate, the view of the four-thousand-metre peaks of the Valais Alps, and the Torrent skiing and hiking region make Albinen a popular place to live.

Albinen was awarded the Oberwalliser Heimatschutz’s Raiffeisen Prize 2018 for its innovative projects, for example, in the areas of housing and family support and second home management.
